Cordelia Hagmann

Cordelia Hagmann, recipient of the MUSIC PRIZE 2023 from the canton of Solothurn, is a versatile musician who has been heard in many different venues in Europe, USA, Israel and Asia. She has performed on the main stage of Carnegie Hall, Barbican Centre and Wigmore Hall in London, Salle Pleyel and Olympia in Paris, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Konserthus in Stockholm, Tonhalle Zürich, Victoria Hall Geneva, Heidelberger Frühling, Swiss embassy in Washington DC, CAL performances in Berkeley, Tel Aviv Opera House, Jerusalem Music Center and the Live Aid concert (2005) in Philadelphia.

In 2021 her album CORDELIA came out. The album consists of ten tracks from Bach to STING, including her original piece Soleá.

While living in New York City and Tel Aviv for many years, Cordelia had the opportunity to collaborate with artists not just in the classical world, but also in the worlds of jazz, pop and world music. These experiences shaped her, expanded her musical horizon and made her the musician she is today.

Cordelia now performs with her band - CORDELIA on violin/viola, Daniel Dor on drums, Santiago Bernal Montaña on cello and Benjamin Noti on guitar - mixing different genres and styles.

In 2016 Cordelia returned with her husband Jonathan Keren - Israeli composer and performer - and their two children to her native Switzerland.

As a soloist she has appeared with String Orchestra of New York City, Tel Aviv Soloists, Meitar Ensemble, Musique de Lumieres, Stadtorchester Solothurn, Temple Symphony and Musikkollegium Winterthur in concertos by Adams, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chausson, Dvorak, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Sarasate, Telemann and Vivaldi. 

From 2012 - 2014 Cordelia was the violinist of world renowned Jazz bassist Avishai Cohen's Strings Project and toured to 14 different countries with his band, recorded the album "Almah" and appeared on Arte and Mezzo TV. As a chamber musician she has performed and toured also with the Mark Morris Dance Group from Brooklyn and the Israeli Chamber Project.

Cordelia lived in NYC from 2004 till 2011. She was a core member and Concertmistress of SONYC (String Orchestra of New York City) and performed in leading positions with the New England Symphonic Ensemble regularly in Carnegie Hall. From 2011 - 2016 she lived in Tel Aviv and performed as Concertmistress and soloist with the Tel Aviv Soloists and joined other groups like Meitar Ensemble and the Israel Philharmonic in concerts.

Cordelia began playing the violin at age five with Matthias Steiner in Switzerland. She received her Bachelor of music with honors from the conservatory in Winterthur-Zürich and completed her studies in the renowned class of Miriam Fried with a Performer Diploma at Indiana University in Bloomington. While in Indiana Cordelia was a member of the Moirae Piano Trio under the guidance of Menahem Pressler. With the Trio she performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with orchestra and won a top prize and the audience prize at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition in 2004.

Cordelia also won the Kiwanis Prize in Zürich in 2001, received a Werkjahr Prize from the Canton of Solothurn and won other prestigious scholarships. Cordelia participated in summer courses such as the international Holland Music sessions and the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades
